How to Become a Female Digital Nomad in 2020

Do you catch yourself daydreaming of working from your laptop on a tropical island? Are you tired of the out-dated 9-5, and ready to embark on a new way of life – living the laptop lifestyle, making money online and building a wildly successful business that contributes to making the world a better place?

Well, if the answer is yes, then you’re in the right place and I’m super excited to share my wisdom and learnings with you, from my time working as a female digital nomad.

Upskill

So, you want to quit your job but you can’t see a correlation between your current position and how you can make money online. Well, never fear. There are so many ways in which you can upskill to build your knowledge that can then be used to create your dream online, digital nomad business.

I left my job with half a decade’s worth of Digital Marketing knowledge, but I only had a very limited understanding of how to go about taking those skills and turning them into my own Digital Marketing Consultancy business. Due to this, I spent a fair amount of time upskilling in various areas so that I could start making money online.

If you want to become a female digital nomad in 2020, you need to first work out how you want to make money online. This can be a little overwhelming as there are so many different options for starting a business and working remotely online, and my understanding of what work can be done from a laptop changes daily when meeting nomads from all over the world.

You could run your own e-commerce store, become a copywriter, manage social media accounts for clients or perhaps build a profitable blog. In fact, I reckon one of the hardest decisions you will have to make is actually figuring out what your offering will be, and upskill where necessary to be able to turn that idea into a revenue-generating business.

So when it comes to ditching the 9-5 to pursue a digital nomad path, no matter what direction you choose to follow, there will be a lot for you to learn but thanks to sites like Skillshare, you will be able to upskill in the areas you need to which will put you in a great position to become a successful female digital nomad in 2020.

If you haven’t heard of Skillshare before, the site is an online learning community for people who want to learn from watching educational videos. Check it out, it’s awesome! You can even get two months of free classes by clicking on the banner below.

Get the right mindset

If I’ve learned anything over the past decade of working with entrepreneurs, it’s that the success of an entrepreneur is 90% determined on mindset, and only 10% related to skill set. You could be the world’s greatest Software Engineer, Copywriter or Marketing Guru but unless you have the right attitude, you’re likely not be cut out for the roller coaster of emotions that lie ahead on your exciting, digital nomad journey.

With that, I don’t want to put you off your remote working dream because I say with my hand on my heart that it certainly is worth all the ups and downs. But, I want you to realise that the “road less travelled by” is not an easy one to take and it’s for that very reason that the proverb “fortune favours the brave” is so accurate. So, by creating the right mindset, you will be in a much stronger position for conquering your fears and making your dreams come true.

But if you do ever feel anxious (which is totally normal by the way), then I’d suggest trying a couple of these to relax and destress:

Complete an Online Remote Working Course

Step number three, learn more. So we’ve already gone through the importance of upskilling in the area you want to focus your digital nomad journey in, as well as learning to develop the right mindset so that you become more resilient and can spot and overcome anxiety. But, to become a remote working digital nomad, you also need to work out exactly how to build your business from the bottom up.

I was incredibly fortunate to stumble upon The Remote Trip’s Mastercourse, right at the start of my remote working journey and as the course provided an in-depth and holistic overview of all the different areas needed to start an online business, I was able to upskill in particular areas necessary to launch and grow my Digital Marketing Consultancy. In addition, the course offered great tips for setting up my business, international bank account, building my website, and creating sales strategies necessary for getting clients, whilst also connecting me to others in a similar position, looking to grow their businesses online through a supportive Facebook Group.

It took around 3 months for me to complete the course, but if you are committed and have the free time, you can complete it in 4 – 6 weeks. I’ll be forever grateful for the Founders of The Remote Trip as a result of their engaging and informative classes which have all been custom built from the knowledge gained from many years working as remote nomads.

If you are interested in finding out more about The Remote Trip, and how you can work remotely and travel the world with the help of their online course, The Remote Trip offers a free Masterclass which you register for here.

If you’re starting out and need a framework for turning your entrepreneurial nomad business idea into an actually revenue-making enterprise, this masterclass by The Remote Trip will be unbelievably useful and really help to accelerate your business growth so that you can wave goodbye to your office cubicle and hello to that coworking space in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Find your Tribe

I mentioned in the last paragraph about the support gained from The Remote Trip’s Facebook Group but there are lots of different ways in which you can grow your tribe and surround yourself with like-minded nomads.

During my first week in Bali, I attended a conference run by Limitless Nomads called Change for Nomads. This two-day event was transformative due to the incredible social business-focused seminars and workshops, as well as meeting 200+ like-minded attendees. When you find yourself connecting with people that have such similarly aligned values and the same view of the world, you can instantly feel connected and energized.

If you’re unable to attend events in person to connect with those on a similar journey, you can join Facebook groups such as Digital Nomad Girls and Digital Nomad Entrepreneurs. Or even join slack channels related to female entrepreneurship or the digital nomad lifestyle such as Nomads Talk, Nomad List and #FemaleFounders.

It really is so important for you to connect with people who are in a similar headspace, especially when you’re just starting out, because it will allow you to see that the way of life you’re aspiring for is possible, no matter what your friends and family may think.

Just do it

There will never be a right time.” – You’ve probably heard this phrase a million times before but honestly, it’s so true and it’s not until you actually decide to make the leap that you will kick yourself for not taking the step sooner.

I’m always eager to help budding digital nomads in any way that I can so if you have any questions or would like further clarity on any of the topics mentioned above, follow me on Instagram and drop me a direct message.

Wishing you the best of luck on your remote working, digital nomad journey.
